Subject: Severe Tropical Storm “YAGI”

At 10.00 p.m. LST (3 September 2024), the severe tropical storm “YAGI” over the upper South China Sea was due at latitude 18.7 degrees north and longitude 118.1 degrees east. With maximum sustained winds about 95 km/hr. This storm was moving west slowly and it is expected to intensify to the typhoon, respectively. This storm is forecast to move through Hainan, China and it will make landfall over upper Vietnam during 6 - 8 September. Isolated heavy rains are likely in the North and the upper Northeast during 7 – 8 September.
During 3 - 6 Sep, the moderate monsoon trough lie across the lower North, the Central and the Northeast of Thailand while the rather strong southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf. Isolated heavy rains are likely in the North and the Northeast while isolated very heavy rains are possible in the Central, the East and the South. People in the areas should beware of heavy to very heavy rains and accumulations that may cause flash flood and overflows, especially along foothills near waterways and lowlands. The rather strong wind force the waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf are likely 2 - 3 meters high and above 3 meters high in thundershowers. In the lower Gulf, the waves have 1 - 2 meters high and above 2 meters high in thundershowers. All ships should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers, small boats in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf keep ashore lasting 8 Sep.
