Subject: Storm “WIPHA” and heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand
No.3 (189/2025)

At 10.00 a.m. LST (20 July 2025), severe tropical storm “WIPHA” over the upper South China Sea was centered about 70 kilometers south of Hongkong, China or at latitude 21.6 degrees north and longitude 114.1 degrees east with maximum sustained winds about 110 km./hr. This storm is moving west with a speed of 20 km./hr., expected to move pass Guangdong, China into the Gulf of Tonkin and make landfall over upper Vietnam during 21-22 Jul before downgrade to tropical depression and the low-pressure cell, respectively, expected to move along the monsoon through lying upper Laos and the upper North. Meanwhile the strong southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf.
The effects of storm “WIPHA” are impacts of heavy to very heavy rain in the North, the upper Northeast, the western portion of the Central, the East and the South (west coast) during 20-24 July 2025. People in the country should beware of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulation that may cause flash floods and overflows especially along the waterways near foothills and lowlands.
Affected areas are as followings
During 20 July 2025
North: Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Kamphaeng Phet and Tak.
Northeast: Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani.
Central: Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon
and Nakhon Pathom.
East: Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.
South: Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Surat Thani, Chumphon, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket and Krabi.
During 21 July 2025
North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun and Tak.
Northeast: Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon,
Nakhon Phanom and Mukdahan.
Central: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Lopburi, Saraburi, Singburi, Ang Thong,
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom,
Samut Songkhram and Samut Sakhon including Bangkok and its vicinity.
East: Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi and Trat.
South: Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Ranong and Phang Nga.
During 22-24 July 2025
North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Phetchabun, Kamphaeng Phet, and Tak.
Northeast: Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon,
Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima and Ubon Ratchathani.
Central: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Singburi, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.
East: Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.
South: Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ranong and Phang Nga.
The rather strong wind forces the waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf up to 2-4 meters high and above 4 meters high in thundershowers. All ships in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers, small boats in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf should keep ashore during this period.
