Tropical
Cyclone “MOCHA”
No.5 (143/2023)

At
04.00 p.m. LST on 12 May, the tropical cyclone “MOCHA” over the middle Bay of
Bengal was due at latitude
14.3 degrees north and longitude 88.4 degrees east. With its maximum sustained
winds about 139 km/hr, it was moving north about
11 km/hr. It is expected to make landfall over Myanmar on 14 and 15 May. More rains, as well as isolated heavy to very
heavy rains, will be possible in the North, the Central, the East and the South
regions
from 12 to 15 May. People should beware of the severe condition that
may cause flash flood and overflows.
In
the upper Andaman Sea, the waves are likely about 2 meters high and above 2
meters high offshore. On 13 and 15 May, the wind tends to become stronger
forcing the waves 2-3 meters high in the upper Andaman Sea and above 3 meters high offshore. The lower Andaman Sea, the waves are
likely about 2 meters high and more than 2 meters high in thundershowers. All
ships should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers area. Small boats
in the upper Andaman Sea keep ashore lasting 16 May. Please stay tuned for the
