"Tropical Storm KIROGI"
No. 5 Time Issued November 18, 2017
At 4.00 p.m. today (18 Nov 2017), Tropical storm KIROGI over the middle South China Sea locates over latitude 11.6 °N, longitude 112.6 °E. With sustained winds of 75 km/hr, the storm is moving west-northwest at speed of 27 km/hr. It is expected to make landfall over middle Vietnam and Cambodia and decline to a tropical depression and a low-pressure cell before covering the East of Thailand and the upper Gulf during 19-21 November. More rain with isolated heavy downpour are likely in the East, the lower Central including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the South. People should beware of possible flash flood and strong winds. Affected areas are as followings:
- During 19-20 November: Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Surat Thani including Bangkok and its vicinity.
- During 20-21 November: Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ranong, Phangnga and Phuket.
The rather strong high-pressure system covers upper Vietnam. It is forecast to extend to Laos today (18 November). Overnight of 18 November, it is forecast to cover the Northeast of Thailand and later the North and the upper Central. Outbreaks of thundershower spells will be likely at the beginning of the period, following with cool spells decreasing by 2-4 ํC and strong winds. People stay safe and keep healthy.
The moderate wind waves are forecast about 2 meters high in both the Gulf and the Andaman Sea. All ships should proceed with caution. People in the South (east coast) should beware of inshore surge and stay tuned for the weather update.
