Subject: Heavy to very
heavy rain in Thailand
and Strong Wind-Waves in upper Andaman Sea
No. 8 (100/2024)
During 23–24 May 2024, the southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, western part of Thailand and the Gulf is strengthening while the low-pressure cell covers the upper country. Isolated heavy to very heavy rains are likely in the country. People should beware of heavy to very heavy rains and accumulation that may cause flash floods and overflows especially along waterways, lowlands and take more caution in thundershowers.
Affected areas are as followings:
23 May 2024
North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun and Tak.
Northeast: Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Yasothon, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani.
Central: Uthai
Thani, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram
and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya including Bangkok and its vicinity.
East: Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong and Chanthaburi.
South: Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Ranong.

North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun and Tak.
Northeast: Loei, Chaiyaphum and Nakhon Ratchasima.
Central: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat,
Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi,
Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon
and Samut Songkhram including Bangkok and its vicinity.
East: Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.
South: Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Ranong.
In addition, an active low-pressure cell over the lower Bay of Bengal will intensify to the tropical depression during 23-24 May. It is expected to make landfall over northeastern of India and Bangladesh during 25-26 May. The storm is no direct effect on Thailand’s weather. The southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, western part of Thailand and the Gulf is strengthening. More rains and scattered heavy rains while isolated very heavy rains are likely in the country. During 23-26 May, the rather strong wind and waves are likely 2-3 meters high in the upper Andaman Sea and above 3 meters in thundershowers while about 2 meters high in the lower Andaman Sea and above 2 meters high in thundershowers. In the Gulf, the waves have about 1 meter high, 1-2 meters offshore and above 2 meters high in thundershowers. All ships should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea keep ashore. Please stay tuned for the weather update.
