Tropical
Cyclone “MOCHA”
No.3 (141/2023)

At
10.00 a.m. LST on 11 May, the tropical depression over the middle part of
Bengal Bay has developed to tropical cyclone “MOCHA”. At 04.00 p.m., it was
centered at latitude 11.2 degrees north and longitude 87.8 degrees east. With its maximum
sustained winds about 75 km/hr, the storm is moving north-northwest
at a speed slowly. It is
expected to make landfall over Myanmar on 14 and 15 May. More rains, as
well as isolated heavy to very heavy rains, will be possible in the North, the
Central, the East and the South regions from 11 to 15 May. People should beware of the severe condition.
In
the upper Andaman Sea, the waves are likely about 2 meters high and in thundershowers
about 3 meters high. On 14 and 15 May, the wind tends to become stronger
forcing the waves 2-3 meters high in the upper Andaman Sea. The lower Andaman
has about 2 meters high and more than 2 meters high in thundershowers. All
ships should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers area. Small boats
in the upper Andaman Sea keep ashore lasting 16 May.
