Subject: Summer Storms in upper Thailand

No. 7 (127/2023)

From 30 April to 1 May, the moderate high-pressure system from China extends to upper Thailand and the South China Sea. Meanwhile hot weather covers the upper country where the strengthening southerly and the southeasterly winds prevail across. Summer storms accompanying with thunderstorms, gusty winds, isolated hail and lightning strikes are likely in upper Thailand. People should beware of the severe weather by keeping off outdoor places, big trees, unsecured buildings and billboards. Avoid wearing metal decorations and using cell phone in thunderstorm. Farmers should prevent for crop and livestock damage.

Affected areas are as followings:

30 April 2023

North:         Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun.

Northeast: Loei, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Nong Bua Lamphu, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham,
Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket
and Ubon Ratchathani.

Central:      Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom including Bangkok and its vicinity.

East:           Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

1 May 2023

North:         Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet
and Phitsanulok.

Central:      Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, including Bangkok and its vicinity.

Southeast: Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan.

In addition, the easterly and the southeasterly winds prevail across the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will strengthening, leading more rains in the South. People should beware of the severe conditions. The waves height in the Gulf are about 1 meter and in the thundershowers more than 2 meters. All ships should proceed with caution and small boat should keep off thundershowers from 30 April to 2 May.

The advisory is in effect on 30 April 2023, at 5.00 p.m.
