In
March 2025, the heat low-pressure cell primarily covered upper Thailand at the beginning
and the end of month, accompanied by the prevailing of the southerly and southeasterly
winds. These resulted in periodically hot weather across most areas of the
northern, northeastern, central parts as well as upper portion of the eastern
part, with very hot in some areas. In March 2025, the average temperature was above
normal in most parts, except for below normal in the northeastern part. The
average monthly temperature for the whole country was 0.3°C higher than normal.
However, the extension of the ridge from high-pressure area in China to cover
northeastern Thailand and the South China Sea and later dominated upper
Thailand, the weather became cooler in that area. These induced easterly and
southeasterly winds to bring moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of
Thailand into upper Thailand, in addition with the confluence of the southwesterly
and southeasterly winds over upper Thailand on March 12 and 13, resulted in unusual
rain, with thunderstorm, and gusty wind in many areas and hail in some places. In
the southern part, the easterly and southeasterly winds that dominated the the
Gulf of Thailand, southern part and the Andaman Sea were mostly weak. These
resulted in less rainfall and hot weather, especially along the west coast.
However, due to the strengthened of the easterly wind for the period of March
7-11 and March 18-22, there was an increase in rainfall reported in southern
part at that time. Monthly rainfall was below normal in almost parts i.e. northern
part 25.4 mm (7%), central part 2.6 mm (49%), southern part (east coast) 48.7
mm (56%) and southern part (west coast) 43.5 mm (42%), except for northeastern and
eastern parts that received above normal 5.3 mm (12%) and 7.2 mm (11%),
respectively. The average total rainfall over Thailand in this month was lower
than normal 18.9 mm (34%).
