In
April 2024, the heat low-pressure cell covered upper Thailand throughout the
month, causing warmer air and very hot weather periodically, particularly at
the end of the month. The scorching heat affected the northern, northeastern,
upper central, and upper eastern parts, with several places recording new
highest temperatures. The average temperature was above normal nationwide,
especially in the northeastern part where temperatures were 3.8°C higher than normal,
and the monthly mean temperature in Thailand was 2.6°C above normal. However,
the prevailing southerly and southeasterly winds over upper Thailand for much
of the month, along with the high-pressure area extending from China to the
northeastern Thailand and the South China Sea, the passage of the westerly
trough through the upper northern Thailand, and the confluence of southwesterly
and southerly winds, resulted in rainfall over upper Thailand with
thunderstorms in several places. The southern region received rainfall, with
heavy rainfall in some areas mainly at the end of the month, influenced by the
easterly and southeasterly winds prevailing over the Gulf of Thailand and
southern part. The average total rainfall in Thailand for this month was approximately
68.8 mm (77%) below the norm, with all regions reporting below-normal monthly
rainfall: the northern region received 44.7 mm (63% of the norm), the
northeastern region 70.9 mm (83%), the central region 69.8 mm (90%), the
eastern region 95.4 mm (94%), the southern region (east coast) 65.4 mm (82%),
and the southern region (west coast) 99.2 mm (61%). More details were as follow.
