In October 2022, Thailand’s weather was dominated by the monsoon trough laid across the upper Thailand during early month. It then moved southwards through the southern part before towards the tropical depression over the central of South China Sea during the midmonth. This storm developed to tropical storm namely “SONSA (2219)”. It made a landfall over Quang Ngai, Vietnam on June 15 and dissipated over Lao PDR associated with tropical storm “NESAT (2220)”. It then moved through southern Hainan Island, China and dissipated over the upper Vietnam on October 20. In addition, the moderate to rather active southwesterly wind prevailed over the Andaman Sea and the southern part during the early and midmonth incorporated with an active low-pressure cell covered the Andaman Sea during the midmonth. These conditions caused intermittent abundant rainfall upper Thailand and experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall while flooding was reported in several places during early month. Southern Thailand experienced abundant rainfall almost the month while accumulated rainfall was reported of 17 percent higher than normal from January to October. Monthly rainfall was reported to be below normal in the northern part 10.6 mm (9%), northeastern part 2.1 mm (2%) and eastern part 26.2 mm (12%), while the above normal rainfall was reported in the central part 23.7 mm (13%), southern part (east coast) 87.7 mm (35%) and southern past (west coast) 221.9 mm (60%). Meanwhile a high-pressure area from China extended its ridge to cover upper Thailand since midmonth accompanied with the transition of monsoon system from easterly to northeast winds over Thailand during last month. It caused decreasing in rainfall and temperature especially in northern and northeastern parts and a cool weather event in the most areas. More details of the weather summary are as follow.
