Thailand
10 October 2022 - 16 October 2022The moderate high pressure area from China extended its ridge to cover northern and northeastern parts during early week and then covered upper Thailand. Another rather strong high pressure area extended its ridge to cover upper Thailand on the last day of the week. In addition, the monsoon trough lay across middle southern part throughout the week. The mentioned monsoon trough lay across the tropical depression in the central South China Sea on 13 Oct. By the way, the mentioned tropical depression intensified into the tropical storm “SONCA, 2219” in the afternoon of 14 Oct. It made landfall at Quang Ngai, Vietnam at the dawn of 15 Oct. After that, it downgraded into the tropical depression at Danang, Vietnam. This storm degenerated into an active low pressure cell covering Laos in the afternoon of the same day. These conditions caused plentiful rainfall over upper Thailand on the first day and during the second half of the week. Cool weather was reported in the morning in most areas of northern and northeastern parts. In southern part, abundant rainfall was observed almost the week.
